Catedral de Mallorca

The Cathedral-Basilica de Santa Maria in Palma also called Cathedral of Mallorca is the main religious building of the island of Mallorca. It consists of a temple in the Levantine Gothic style built on the shore of the bay of Palma.

That's impressive. Quite a surprise in the capital of Majorca. I had seen an infinite number of photos but, until you are there, you are not aware of the size of this Gothic style temple. Its most photogenic side can be found in the Parque del Mar or Parc de la Mar. An esplanade with a large lake that reminds us of times gone by, when the Cathedral of Mallorca was next to the seafront.

It is unforgivable to leave Palma without enjoying the interior of the cathedral. Among other wonders, we find a beautiful play of light and colour thanks to the numerous rose windows and large windows (among them is the largest Gothic rose window in the world), and impressive columns that reach a height of 21 metres. Antonio Gaudí was in charge of the renovation works of the cathedral at the beginning of the last century and I assure you that it will be easy to discover his personal stamp in an infinity of details.

Castell de Bellver

It offers the best panoramic views over the whole city. Inside you can also enjoy the History Museum.

To start the day we will move to the farthest point of our journey, the imposing Bellver Castle. A defensive watchtower located on a hill over 100 meters above sea level. It has a curious circular floor plan that is worth visiting and the best panoramic views over the whole city. Inside you can also enjoy the History Museum.
You can get here by car, since it has a very large parking lot, or by bus. The tourist bus has a stop at the castle itself. The rest of the lines (3, 20 and 46), will leave you at the bottom. You will have to walk up the hill in about 20 minutes.
Also, from here you can enjoy a wonderful sunset. And speaking about this, I recommend you to read the article with the best places to see the sunset in Mallorca.

Palacio Real de la Almudaina

One of the most beautiful historical buildings in the city. It is located next to the Cathedral

Symbol of civilian power for hundreds of years. This is where the Arabs first came to welcome, after the reconquest, the members of the Spanish royal courts. Even today, it serves as the official residence of the royal family during their visits to the island.
The fascinating thing about its architecture (both the exterior facade and the interior rooms) is precisely that it reflects the influences of all the cultures that have passed through here. Today we can enjoy a Christian palace of Gothic style that preserves the original structure of the Muslim Alcazar.
Also, don't forget to stroll through the Hort del Rei gardens. They are right next to the palace and in the past they were also royal property.

Barrio judío de Palma

It is a very extensive area that includes the territory between Santa Eulália Square and Porta d'es Camp.

In the 13th century it housed up to 5,000 Jews. This figure gives us an idea of the size of the largest Mallorcan Jewish quarter, called the Call in Mallorcan. The Hebrew heritage of the last Jewish descendants who were forced to convert to Christianity has reached us through narrow, shady and very quiet streets.
It is a very extensive area that includes the territory between Plaza Santa Eulália and Porta d'es Camp. All these streets are worth kicking around and you will find some very valuable monuments such as the Church of Montesión, the gardens of Can Fontirroig or the Tower of L'Amor.
